FlipEars Zurq XXIV Review: Tribrid Greatness

The Flipears Zurq XXIV in-ear monitors are a bold and dazzling entry in the world of high-end tribrid IEMs , blending extravagant design with a powerful, immersive sound signature. Designed for listeners who crave rich bass, detailed treble, and a spacious soundstage, the Zurq XXIV walks a fine line between fun and fidelity. In this review, we’ll break down the unboxing experience, aesthetics, tech specs, and—most importantly—how they sound.

Whether you’re an audiophile chasing sparkle and slam or a casual listener looking for something stylish and spacious, the Zurq XXIV offers a compelling, if polarizing, experience.

What's In The Box

  • Flipears Zurq XXIV

  • Detachable 2-pin Cable with 4.4mm termination

  • Assorted Eartips

  • Chrome Zippered Carrying Case

  • FlipEars Zurq Faceplate

Aesthetics & Functionality

The design of these IEMs is truly spectacular, with orange glittery shells and a semi-transparent grey body so you can see the electronics inside. The body itself is a little bulky, and the nozzle is quite large so it's difficult to find a set of compatible eartips. I used the stock eartips on these, as they were the ones I could get to fit snugly for an ideal in-ear fit. Smaller ears may not like the bulkiness these have, as the large shape would invite fatigue and cut listening sessions short.

The bulky size does have its perks. Sound isolation is a great feature that you get with the large body blocking most of your ear canal. In addition to well-fitted ear tips, you are able to focus on your music and get the most out of your IEMs without the risk of outside distraction.

While these may not terminate to a standard 3.5mm jack, they do give you a little boost in quality with the 4.4mm termination. You'll be able to connect to any DAC/Amp with ease, giving you access to high quality listening wherever you go.

Listening Review

Soundstage

The soundstage is super wide, and it is impressive in its width and depth. You don't have a lot of height out of this, but the layers are light and airy so the listening experience isn't heavy. This may cause the overall signature to be a bit thin, but with more complicated orchestral and large instrumental arrangements, you get enough depth and weight to make it sound natural. I like the immersive quality it has, and how the sound wraps around you. The bass is very present, but the high end definitely comes in to balance some of that impact. The midrange is a bit recessed, so you get a small U-shaped signature to enjoy your tracks on. It may sound a little hollow for the vocals and main instruments to be a bit further back, but it's a sound you learn to love.

Low Frequencies

The low end is thick and very present. It provides a good foundation for the rest of the frequencies to build up from. The Zurq does a good job of finding the balance of a thick and punchy low end that doesn't overpower the midrange, despite it being recessed and a bit further back in the signature. There is decent clarity on the low end as well, which helps everything sound cohesive and balanced while still having a dynamically tuned sound.

Midrange Frequencies

The midrange is slightly recessed on these IEMs, causing vocals, guitars, and other melodic elements to take a backseat in most mixes. This doesn't mean that those elements are completely hidden; instead, they have enough presence for you to notice them and focus your attention on finding the smaller details. It makes you really pay attention to your music. The midrange has nice layers that expand into the deep soundstage. Despite it being staged in such a way, you still get a thinner sound that makes the overall signature kind of hollow.

High Frequencies

The top end comes in to give us air and brightness in the top end, all while giving you pristine detail that reaches every frequency range. I very much appreciate the space the top end gives, as opposed to compressing the sound and cutting off awkwardly at the top. The top end is also more present than the midrange, which is great for clarity and balance. It is also appreciated how the tuning is not shrill or too sharp. Even though the top end comes out a little more than the mids, the sound is still relaxed and light for comfortable listening.

Final Thoughts

The Flipears Zurq XXIV is a statement piece, both in design and sonic character. With a vibrant bass foundation, sparkling highs, and a cinematic soundstage, it offers a fun yet detailed listening experience that rewards attentive ears. While its recessed mids and large fit may not be for everyone, the Zurq XXIV delivers a signature that audiophiles and collectors alike can appreciate.
